Why is Matcha so Expensive?

Unlike any regular green tea, the way matcha is prepared requires special skills and knowledge. Not to mention a massively tedious and very difficult process.

Here are some of the factors that makes matcha so expensive:

  1. Cultivation process – since matcha is a shade-grown green tea, it only grows in specific areas in Japan and requires a definite shading period. As a result of this, they produce more chlorophyll resulting in its more vibrant green color.
  2. Harvesting process – matcha leaves are hand-picked and can only be harvested from May till June. Once it was harvested, the stems and veins of every single leaf must be removed before turning it into super fine powder.
  3. Processing – it takes hours and lots of skills and effort to make a super fine matcha powder. It can only be ground in small batches and in dark places the avoid loss of nutrients.
  4. Preparation – when preparing a matcha tea, unlike other green tea, you consume the whole tea leaves. Meaning, you get to drink all the nutrients you can get from each tea leaves.

But despite being pricey, matcha is still absolutely worth it. You get to enjoy a delightful cup of tea while consuming every bit of nutrients in it.

Is Matcha Healthy?

Like any other green tea, matcha contains a high number of antioxidants which is good for our body. This is the reason why matcha is becoming more and more popular and is being in demand to most places around the world.

The antioxidants found in matcha are believed to help in lowering blood pressure, reduce the risk of having heart diseases, and boost our metabolism.

So, if you’re looking for something to add to your green diet, then why not give matcha tea a shot. You don’t even need to worry about the sustainability of this, because this tea is 100% eco-friendly.
